Behringer MS16 Reference Monitors

The Behringer MS16 speakers are a compact 2-way stereo speaker system for home studio or computer multimedia applications. Two high-power amplifiers drive the 4 inch woofers and the high-resolution tweeters. The front-mounted volume control and individual bass and treble controls make accurate sound adjustments a breeze. The MS 16 monitors have two stereo line inputs (RCA and 1/8 inch/3.5mm TRS jack) allowing simultaneous use of two stereo sources, so you can play back CDs, MDs or MP3s and use an electric guitar/keyboard at the same time. In addition, the 1/4 inch jack TRS microphone input lets you mix vocals with a stereo track. Magnetic shielding and compact size make these speakers perfect for placement near video monitors or computer displays.

If you record voice/acoustic instruments this is a great product. These speakers would be no good for drum & bass. Mixing may need to be checked through headphones but the speakers give a good representation of how things will sound through a PC or car stereo. For real studio monitor speakers you must expect to pay serious money or buy second hand.

Now you wouldn't expect studio reference monitors for this sort of price would you? but they are very reasonably sounding 'Computer Monitor' speakers, ideal for someone like myself getting to grips with the first stages of computer based recording and DAW software. I truly believe Behringer have done a great deal to improve their reliability in recent years, and I have no qualms recommending their product line.

I use these speakers for video editing, I was initially going to spend out a lot more, but was pointed these out - I was dubious, but went for it as the price was so reasonable. I'm really impressed, don't be put off by the look - they kick out some serious levels and I have had no problems with them at all. The quality of sound is very high, and they are so portable. Really easy to set up, and just really pleased with them - highly reccomend. [...]

I have these as desktop monitors for my home workstation. I have been producing a small video and these have been very good for getting the audio levels correct for the voice-over and background music mix. I think they will be perfect for when I do some home music production here at my desk. There are two inputs on the back (phono and jack) so it's possible to have a line in from your PC and also from a aux device, such as an MP3 player. I have no use for the Mic input on the front but it's there, with its own level dial if you have a sudden urge for karaoke! They're a bit weak on the lower end, and I have turned the bass dial up a quarter-turn when listening to music. Having said that, you have to bear in mind the small size and anyone needing more bass won't have got as far as reading this. I am finding it acceptable. They have a very low level hiss. It's very quiet (almost inaudible) and your PC fans are much, much louder. It's more apparent through headphones but even then, it still doesn't warrant criticism. I recommend you listen to your favourite vocalists through these because they'll sound beautiful. They provide a clear and flat sound right up to the volumes you need. My wife was complaining that I had the volume up too loud and I hadn't noticed because the sound was so easy on the ears. I'd say they're perfect for my needs: nearfield monitors, to sit on my desk, giving me confidence that I'm producing a mix that will work. Great for audio, video and multimedia production at a desktop workstation. Great for listening to music while you work. Probably won't supply enough bass for a gaming experience. Highly recommended for someone on a budget who needs to get some extra clarity from their speakers without any fuss. Great value!
