Our fifth guest is Jane Giles, the general manager of The Horns in Watford. A fantastic grassroots music venue that features everything from originals, covers and tribute bands to open mic nights to discos and more. The Horns has established itself to be a staple venue for live acts to play in the Hertfordshire area, no doubt thanks to the sheer tenacity and dedication Jane has put into the venue becoming what it is known for today.

 

In this episode, Jane talks us through her journey to becoming the general manager of The Horns, how chances need to be taken on giving young and upcoming bands the attention they need and how it’s a bands responsibility as much as a venues to bring in a crowd. Jane also talks us through the effects COVID-19 has had on The Horns, whether or not she will be opening soon, will bands be able to play together again by January 2021 and what can be done to help save music venues from going under.

Brett took over The Oddfellows Arms in 2011 following a career change and has since grown the pub into a popular live music venue, known throughout Hertfordshire for its vibrant live scene and famous weekday open mic nights.

 

In the episode, Brett talks us through the history of The Oddfellows Arms since he took over, how COVID-19 has affected the venue since lockdown and what Brett has been doing in the meantime to keep the venue alive. Our first guest, on our inaugural episode, is Pete Ray Biggin. Pete is one of the UK's most sought after drummers whose comprehensive CV includes Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson, Incognito, Chaka Khan, Adele, Jessie J, Joss Stone, Robbie Williams, Whitney Houston, Pete is now the drummer for Level 42.

 

Pete talks us through some of his career. From his humble beginnings in Sheffield, to his move to London and his first big break with the one and only Amy Winehouse and being scouted for Level 42.
