Amazing oscillators, unique filters

With One, FabFilter has put a tremendous amount of effort into creating the very cut-off filter ever. With a completely new design approach, they have ended up with a result that is the fattest and smoothest self-oscillating digital filter people have ever heard. One has been finely tuned to achieve the character and warmth of a classic analogue synthesiser that sounds raw and never cheap or ‘digital’ even at full resonance.

Overview

One’s filter is fed by an equally high-quality solid-sounding oscillator that has been developed from scratch to be completely aliasing-free. One also features sawtooth, triangle and square waveforms with pulse-width modulation. The oscillator and the filter can be modulated by the LFO and the EG. The LFO offers you triangle and square waveforms with an adjustable wave balance so any wave form between sawtooth and triangle can be selected. The tempo can also be synchronised to the host and the EG features the usual ADSR knobs but with a perfectly fine-tuned feel. Additionally, One features a Hold setting that extends the time keys are held down.

In use

Where FabFilter’s One excels is in its attention to detail and fine-tuning that can be seen throughout the plug-in. For example, the portamento feature doesn’t just slide from one note to another, instead, it uses a carefully selected algorithm to make your playing livelier and give it just that little extra magic. Smart Parameter Interpolation handles changes to any of FabFilter One’s parameters that ensure both responsiveness and smooth transitions. Additionally, there are no irritating digital clicks or zipper effects, and MIDI controller changes are handled perfectly smooth. Naturally, the FabFilter One plug-in handles all parameter changes at sample accuracy, and it can be used with arbitrary samples rates if need be. All parameters are fully automatable within your favourite host and via MIDI Learn.
