Black Lion Bluey 500 FET Limiting Amplifier

True Blue - Without 2U

Introducing the highly-coveted Bluey 500, the 500-series version of the renowned Black Lion Audio Bluey. If you're a die-hard music lover, you must have heard of the legendary Bluey compressor, Chris Lord-Alge's not-so-secret weapon that has been behind countless hit tracks. The original Bluey was a piece of equipment that was one-of-a-kind, the result of years of odd fixes, modifications, and upgrades that made it almost impossible to obtain. But, that's where Black Lion Audio comes in.

After years of hard work and reverse engineering, Black Lion Audio was able to recreate the magic of the original Bluey in the form of the Bluey compressor. They added a few features while retaining the essential qualities that made the original Bluey so sought-after. With the Bluey 500, Black Lion Audio brings this same magic to your 500-series rack, making it easier than ever to add that iconic blue-striped mojo to your music.

At Black Lion Audio, they firmly believe that everyone deserves to have a bit of Bluey in their life. The Bluey 500 is the perfect addition to your setup, offering all the squeeze, heft, and grit of the original Bluey in just two 500-series slots. This is a fraction of the footprint of the original Bluey, making it perfect for producers and sound engineers with limited space. Experience the unique and unmistakable sound of the Bluey 500 and elevate your music to the next level.

New Features, New Sounds

If you're looking to create masterpieces that have that same exacting detail as the great Chris Lord-Alge, you need the Bluey 500 from Black Lion Audio. Using custom Cinemag transformers, Black Lion Audio has recreated the very same console insert path that Chris used on the original Bluey, giving everyone that same coveted console feel. Now you too can achieve the same level of precision in your music!

But that's not all, folks! Black Lion Audio has gone above and beyond, adding an active wet/dry mix for easy parallel compression, as well as a stereo link to the Bluey 500. You can effortlessly switch between stereo or dual-mono operation, giving you the flexibility you need to craft the perfect sound. It's almost too easy!

Built with a vintage-inspired PCB layout, 1% resistors, and polyester capacitors, the Bluey 500 is a piece of equipment that's built to last. With hand-testing, calibration, and QC done in the USA, Black Lion Audio ensures that each unit is of the highest quality.

Get your hands on the Bluey 500 and experience the exceptional level of detail that only Chris Lord-Alge has enjoyed until now.

A note on the Attack control:

  • The Attack control on the Bluey works a little differently than you may have encountered on other '76-style compressors. Turning the Attack knob to the left (counter-clockwise) will yield faster attack times; slower times result when turning to the right (clockwise). We’ve found this control scheme to be more intuitive; akin to a volume knob decreasing level to the left and increasing to the right.

  • Attack: Continuously variable 20uS to 800uS
  • Release: Continuously variable 1200mS to 50mS
