MOTU Ultralite AVB 18x18 USB AVB Interface

Up To 36 Channels of Professional Audio

The Ultralite AVB packs more channels than ever before, including up to an available 18 inputs and 18 outputs of best in class audio quality. This is a surprising amount of options, whether you're recording in a studio or performing live.

There are 2 mic inputs for lead vocals and backing vocals or miked acoustic guitar, two Hi Z guitar inputs to simply plug your guitar & bass straight in and 6 line inputs for stereo keyboards, electronic drum kit, synths or DI feeds from amps.

8 balanced analogue line outputs are broken down into a stereo main pair for your monitors or front of house, and 3 pairs of aux outputs to channel your mix to feedback monitors, external processing equipment or headphone monitor mixes. These outputs deliver a stunning 117 dB dynamic range, offering a level of detail and sensitivity that you would only usually expect of a much higher priced interface.

These main inputs and outputs are supplemented by midi I/O to control software and outboard synths and 8-Channel optical I/O ports so that you can expand to a total of 36 Channels in total. The optical ports also support stereo TOSLinc (optical S/PDIF)

Mix With The Power of a Large Format Console

You may be thinking that a flagship large-format console cannot be hiding under a secret button on the Ultralite AVB, and you would be right! However, through the power of DSP-powered mixing software, you now have the full power and control of a software mixing console that is identical to the Mixer found in MOTU's Flagship 1248 and 16A interfaces. Although you may not have the physical feel of twisting the knobs and pushing the faders, you get not only the visual element but also the workflow that helps you to make sound professional decisions and focus on the music.

The Mixer has modelled vintage analogue EQ and compression that you can print straight to your tracks. the Groups and Main Mix bus are equipped with MOTU's Leveler which is an accurate model of the legendary Teletronix LA-2A, known for its highly coveted Automatic Gain Control (AGC)

It doesn't even end there. The software you're using isn't downloaded onto your hard drive like your DAW. It is designed as a web app that is fed from the Ultralite itself and accessed by any web app software on whatever device you want. Whether you're using just your main computer or your accessing the mixer on another device like a laptop or tablet, the Ultralite connects to your network by wire or by your wifi. Whether you prefer Mac or Windows, iOS or Android, as long as you're on the network and have a web browser, you can access your mixer.

So What's AVB?

Now you may have been wondering whatisAVB in this new Ultralite. It stands for Audio Video Bridging, a fairly new and groundbreaking design for MOTU that offers unparalleled connectivity and new features that could transform your audio setup.

Developed by the IEEE, AVB is an international standard specification for transporting high-bandwidth, low-latency audio and video over Ethernet. This means that it's not only limited to MOTU products, allowing your Ultralite to work with any other device that has AVB.

AVB takes Ethernet to the next level, using AVB switches instead of traditional ethernet routers and higher-grade cables (shielded CAT-5e or Cat-6) so that latency is at its lowest and you get guaranteed uninterrupted audio streaming.

With AVB you could connect 2 or 3 Motu AVB interfaces together, extending both your I/O capabilities and utilising different rooms in your personal studio. You could even integrate AVB into your live setup, bringing together FOH mixing, in-ear monitoring and concert recording using long cable runs and network-wide accessibility.

A Motu AVB network can stream over 512 channels and handle a lot more besides. No matter how many AVB switches you connect and hundreds of meters of cable you use, the network latency stays fixed at an astonishing 0.625ms
