Schoeps CMIT 5 U Shotgun Microphone

Overview

The CMIT 5 is Schoeps’s flagship microphone, which since its release has set the standard for shotgun microphones the world over. The CMIT 5’s directionality increases smoothly with higher frequencies which then results in a very balanced sonic character. Additionally, the mic’s sound level decreases softly and steadily for off-axis sounds, allowing for a natural sounding capture and reduction in movement noise while in boom operation. The CMIT 5 also features stronger directionality than you might expect from a microphone of its length. Lastly, if required the CMIT 5 can also be used in music recording scenarios like operas and orchestras.

Best Practice

The CMIT 5’s sound quality remains consistent even if the microphone is rotated on its axis, since the directional pattern is the same in both the vertical and horizontal planes. The CMIT 5 features three push button activated filters that allow the microphone to adapt to the recording application:

  • High-frequency emphasis (+5 dB at 10 kHz) enhances speech intelligibility and compensates for high-frequency loss caused by windscreens.
  • A steep low-cut filter (18 dB/oct. below 80 Hz) suppresses wind and boom noise.
  • A gentle low-frequency roll off (6 dB/oct)
