3Dio Free Space XLR Binaural Microphone

Overview

The 3Dio Free Space XLR is a high-quality binaural microphone. Its integrated microphone capsules are extremely sensitive/quiet and have a very natural presence that is perfect for binaural recordings. The Free Space XLR delivers you a portable, professional quality binaural recording with a very warm and solid response in the low to mid-range frequencies. This then brings out the punch as well as provides low-end support for bass-heavy sounds. The frequency response of the capsules used in the Free Space XLR rolls of slightly above 10kHz, which makes it an excellent choice for recording instruments with loud high frequencies like drum cymbals or acoustic guitars. Additionally, it also prevents any harsh effects that are sometimes associated with binaural recordings using smaller capsules.

Why does the Free Space sound so natural?

The Free Space XLR captures the sound of the real world identically to how we perceive the world with our own ears. When you listen back to recordings taken with the Free Space XLR on headphones or 3D capable speakers you can hear the sound as if you were there at the time of recording. The effect is so powerful because the Free Space XLR’s design is based on 13+ years of research into binaural technology and human hearing.

Microphone Capsules

The Free Space XLR uses matched hi-sensitivity capsules.

The Free Space XLR binaural microphone also comes with two mounting bases, one on the top and one on the bottom of the centre chassis of the mic.
