Schoeps KA 40 Sphere Attachment

Overview

The KA 40 is a sphere-shaped accessory with a diameter of 40mm, and is meant for the use with omnidirectional microphones, simply plug the KA 40 on the microphone. The KA 40 is an acoustic filter that provides a larger shadowing at medium frequencies of 1-4kHz and creates the illusion of closer microphone placement. Back when there were no pressure gradient microphones, this was the only way top produce directivity. The higher directivity the KA 40 produces is also advantageous in the Decca tree, because it creates some level differences in this otherwise purely time-of-arrival-based stereophonic microphone technique.
