The Chandler Germanium Pre/DI is a 1U germanium transistor-based Class A single-channel pre-amp and DI unit.

Built around custom-made transformers, the Chandler Germanium Pre/DI brings a rounded, full-bodied sound to your recordings, especially suited for vocalists looking for a classic feel to their studios. As well as the Input Gain on the Germanium Pre/DI, Chandler Limited also includes a unique Feedback control for additionally increasing the gain and THD of your input signal, to bring out the best of the tonal subtleties of the germanium transistors.

A modern classic, the Chandler Germanium Pre/DI takes the characteristic sound of the germanium transistor, originally used in some of the most iconic circuits in the world, including Neve and Fairchild, and puts it to work in this single channel pre-amp and DI.

The use of germanium devices opens a whole new sound palate not found in any pro audio equipment currently manufactured. The original designs were last used in the days of flower-power, when germaniums were everywhere, with the Chandler Germanium Pre/DI bringing back that magical pre-amp sound.

In addition, the Chandler Germanium Pre/DI includes a novel Thick control, to provide an even warmer, fuller sound with less top-end emphasis, to the circuit. Pad, Phantom and Phase switches are also conveniently located nearby on the Germanium Pre-amp front panel.

These incredibly smooth sounding transistors were the basis of the earliest transistor designs by Neve (1053, 1055, 1057), EMI (TG12345 MKI), Telefunken, and Fairchild. Those familiar with these units can attest to the special sound of the germanium transistor.

The Germanium series runs on +40-volt power, high current, and has a huge +34 output before clipping. The sound is warm and smooth, as with many vintage style circuits, but you'll find a whole new world of smooth here, as well as a sound that settles in perfectly to your tracks without fighting. The Germanium uses Chandler's new custom wound transformers that combine the best parts of Chandler’s favourite St Ives and Gardners input and output transformers.
