An OLED display and file-search jog-wheel simplify operation. A USB Keyboard input allows for simple editing of file names. Playback modes includes single/continuous, repeat, random, programmed and skip-back play, with power-on auto-play, pitch control, between +/- 16 per cent, and tempo-lock (master key) also included. Cascade or simultaneous recording between the SD/SDHC card and connected USB drive allow either backup or extended recording facilities respectively. Audio tracks may be 'marked' during record; the 'marks' may then be searched for on playback, used to edit on the device or create an EDL (edit decision list) allowing the edits to be completed after the recording is transferred to a PC, using the supplied DMP Mark Editor Software (Windows only). Timer recording and playback features, also allow advanced scheduling of capture or playback. A power switch with an adjacent green LED power on/standby indicator is at the extreme left of the front panel, with a 6.35mm stereo headphone socket with associated level control next. Two USB ports, for drive and keyboard connection respectively, are located next to this, with a hinged flap, which may be secured with a screw, covering a slot for an SD/SDHC card. Below this buttons offer 'Move', 'Copy', 'Combine', Divide' and 'Undo' edit functions, or when used with the adjacent 'Shift' button, 'Dimmer' (display brightness), 'Rec.Mon.' (recording monitoring); 'Mark', 'Mark -' and 'Mark +' are used to add and search for marks (-/+) and the last button steps through the 'Display' screens and selects text. The OLED display shows status and settings information, depending on the current mode, including recording and playback levels, folder and track names. On the right of the front panel, the top row of five buttons offer a choice of 'List', 'Menu', 'Frame', 'Fast Forward' and 'Fast Rewind' playback functions, or when used with the 'Shift' button, 'Media' (display attached media), '-Lock' (disable front panel operations); 'Pitch', 'Pitch +' and 'Pitch -' are used to activate and alter the pitch of playback. The bottom row features the four large 'transport' buttons: A large 'Recording' button lights red during recording and flashes red when recording is paused. The remaining three offer 'Stop', 'Pause' and 'Play'. A smaller 'Back' control, for stepping back through menus, sits below a rotary, jog-style control (with a push-to-enter switch) that allows the user to skip tracks, move the text cursor, menu item selection and set the recording level or recording balance between left and right. The rear has two female and two male 3-pin XLR connectors for the balanced analogue inputs and outputs. Two pairs of RCA(phono) types provide unbalanced analogue inputs and outputs. A pair of 3-pin XLR connectors offer AES/EBU digital input and output. S/PDIF digital input and output are provided on another pair of RCA(phono) types. RS-232C and 'parallel' ports are provided by 9-pin and 25-pin D-sub connectors respectively. The AC power inlet is an IEC type. Compatible recording media: SD/SDHC card, USB flash memory, external USB recording media (mass storage class). File systems: FAT16/FAT32/HFS+. Maximum capacity of recording media: theoretical maximum of 2TB, current media standards allow 32GB. File size: 2GB maximum. Recording format, MP3: MPEG1 layer III audio compression; MP3 Bit-rate: 160, 128, 96, 64, 32 kbps, mono; 320, 256, 192, 128, 64 kbps, stereo. WAV: 16/24-bit linear PCM; 44.1, 48, 96kHz sampling.
