This is a brilliant product easy to use, giving great results. With a couple of improvements it could be fantastic. If I could make two changes to it they would be these:Although you can record in Mono, the file that the DR100 produces is a stereo file (both legs the same)I would like to be able to set the device to record to a mono file doubling the capacity of the flash card, as most of the stuff I record is Vox Pops.Improvement number two, isn't as serious, just a little pain really.Tascam brilliantly designed it to have two battery sources, AA and an Lithium Rechargable Battery. You can set which battery to use very easily in the settings, however, when that battery runs flat, I would like it to switch automatically to the alternative power source. from my own experiences with the device, it does not do this, and you loose your recording.Overall however, they are two very minor points, the device gives great recording quality, it's very quick and easy to swap between input types, and having a balanced line in is a great addition that the Zooms and other recorders lack. The gain control on the side is incredibly helpful, and the mic sensitivity switches on the back is a fantastic addition for when using non-powered dynamic mics, something Marantz could learn a lesson or two from, using an Beyer M58 with one of those... you may as well not bother, with the DR-100 it works fantastically, I use an SM58 with mine most of the time, and the quality is superb. It does look a bit like a tazer gun thing, not sure how I'd get on flying with it?[...]

Had a number of Tascam products previously so dissapointed to find first DR100 DOA. However StudioSpares turned round a replacement next day. Really easy to set up and get recording, insert battery, charge, select input and away you go. First used in a presentation where preasenter moved around quite a bit, but this had little affect on the quality of the final output file. With the various input options and onboard functionality the DR100 looks to be a really good product.
