Trojan 200 Power Amplifier

The Trojan series combines solid engineering principles with the requirements of the serious power amplifier user. All models share the same front end components varying only in the components used in the final output stage and power supply.

This series has a model to suit all applications from near field monitors to providing almost a kilowatt of power to sub bass woofers in bridge mode. Inputs can be via XLRs or Jacks. Outputs are on Speakon. The output stage automatically protects itself and the speakers if over driven for a long period. In fact it is protected against short circuits, overload and overheating. As further protection, the amplifier automatically applies limiting should it be overdriven; this facility can be switched out.

Visual system integrity is provided by four LEDs for Signal Present and Signal Clipping on each channel. Three further general status LEDs indicate Bridge, Power and Protect. A cooling fan drives air over substantial heatsinks. It monitors the temperature and adjusts the fan’s speed accordingly. This series meets the varied requirements extending from classical music monitoring to bass bin monitoring as the frequency response extends down to 5Hz.

This is a good product; excellent stereo imaging and full of facilities - unfortunately it is slightly let down due to its excessive fan noise. I've replaced the 2 fans with 2 Nokia NF-A4x10 fans running in series and this (plus installing it in a cupboard) has made it workable - it's a shame as otherwise it's a great product.

A great, professional product at a very reasonable price. Does what it says on the box and does it very well.

Trojan 200. This power amp is actually very good - certainly in comparison to other amps in this price bracket (Pro-sound, Carlsbro, Pulse etc.). The build quality and sound quality are certainly very good for the money with features like Bridge/parallel/stereo mode switch, ground lift switch, high pass filter (bass roll-off) switch and limiter switches for each channel. The bass roll-off switch is quite strong and sharp acting so makes this amp ideal for use with satellites and a separate powered sub-woofer. The only minor gripe is that even though it's a relatively low powered amp (but it is pretty loud for 60 wpc into 8 ohms/ 100wpc into 4 ohms) it is fan cooled so there is some fan noise, especially after you've had it on at a healthy volume for some time - you obviously don't hear the fan when you've monitoring at high levels, only when the music stops. This is a great amp for the money, a real bonus that it is only 1U high (although it is quite deep) and can be heartily recommended for monitoring in the studio - if the fan noise bothers you, put the amp in another room!
