BEHRINGER TUBE ULTRAGAIN MIC100 The TUBE ULTRAGAIN MIC100 is a vacuum tube mic/line preamplifier with integrated limiter for studio, live and hard disk recording applications. It features a carefully selected 12AX7 vacuum tube with UTC technology for exceptional warmth and low noise. Thus, the MIC100 can be used to eliminate the "dull" sound of standard digital recorders and sound cards. Also, it perfectly complements studio-grade condenser microphones. When used as a high-end DI-box, it ensures outstanding signal integrity. The TUBE ULTRAGAIN MIC100 comes with phase reverse switch, +48V phantom power , 20dB pad, and balanced inputs and outputs.

For the money this is a really good little pre, and helps me get a healthy, clean signal into Logic as well as into an HD24. inexpensive and perfectly acceptable. Despite what the manual says, I find the left hand knob (Gain) is best left alone (ie almost fully anti-clockwise) to start with as it has no affect on the LED's as a gain trim pot, but use the (right hand) output knob to set levels and then mess around with gain if you need to add that 'valve warmth' that I personally can never perceive in this or any device........

I was uncertain when I bought this how effective it would be but I've been blown away by how good it makes my Taylor 414 sound when recording and It hardly needs any gain to make my dynamic mics show 0dbfs in my DAW (Logic) when without it they hardly register. Great value product.

I have eight of these, which I use as the front end of a live recording rig. I record various musical genres, from string quartets to orchestras to jazz to rock, and these preamps enable me to produce wonderfully authentic sounds, especially with live instruments. At the price, they are remarkable. I can't say anything about long term reliability, as they are quite new, but I own a lot of Behringer kit, which I have found to be extremely reliable over a number of years.

every project I have recorded since using this device has been improved instantly - I've used it for vox and acoustic guitar mainly, and the clinical sound often related to digital recording (protools le 8.1 in this case) has gone and been replaced with a warm analouge sound. The presets are actually useable but I constantly tweek to get the best sound. Used as a live vocal di, it again produces a warmth that I'm not used to getting on stage, and I also use one as a preamp with electric guitar and with the gain ramped up it kicks quite nicely. a very versatile piece of kit for pennies, but you do have to accept that it generates a tiny bit more noise - but it's a valve-pre and thats part of the charm!
