S980 Cardioid Condenser Microphone

The Studiospares S980 is a small condenser microphone to be used in areas a conventional condenser microphone could not fit comfortably. The S980, small enough not to be intrusive.

Features:

The S980 houses a high-quality electric capsule that faithfully and accurately captures every harmonic detail of the sound source. Its size is not to be underestimated as its lighter diaphragm can capture sound as effective as larger sized microphones.

Inspired by the legendary AKG 451 the S980 can capture the harmonic richness of sound sources like drum cymbals and the intensity of rack toms with ease. The sound achieved from the S980 is not chromium-plated or metallic like conventional dynamic microphones, that sound more restricted than condenser microphones.

The frequency response of this microphone reveals why the sound captured is so smooth and harmonically rich. The S980 features a frequency response of 20Hz - 20kHz. The response is +/- 3dB from 50Hz to 19kHz and the maximum SPL is 148dB. The equivalent noise level is 18dB-A (IEC268) A-weighted.

The low noise platform is attributed to the front-end bipolar FET’s, meaning you will produce recordings free from any hiss or low-level distortion. Being a condenser microphone, it will have to be powered by 48-volt phantom power.

This microphone features a Cardioid polar pattern, ideal for recording sources directly in front of the microphone and rejecting from the side and the rear. With the S980’s small size this would be ideal in drum micing applications, being able to accurately capture the desired area of the kit and reject its surroundings. Enabling you to have isolated recordings of what they choose to capture.
