Studiospares gooseneck mic with base. Designed for announcements and speech applications, with high output to overcome system noise, especially during periods of silence.

A high-quality directional gooseneck microphone (about 48cm long), supplied with a base unit. The base unit can be powered by 2xAA batteries (not supplied) or 48V phantom power from a mixing desk.

This new design features a heavy rectangular base unit with a latching switch and red LED to show when the mic is on. There is also a male XLR input on the rear of the base. Mic cannot be used without the base unit or other similar low-voltage power supply. Mic features a low-cut switch for reducing rumble and handling noise.

Microphone Powering: 48V phantom power

Using as studio talkback mic. This was a long waited for replacement for a PDM300 which had a very bad hum when plugged into just about any input. The new mic works perfectly, going into a Soundcraft mixer, yes it's a latching switch but this is no problem as there is an LED to show that it is live. It's quite remarkably well-built for the money - frankly even not for the money. Yes, it's very, very vunerable to popping on plosives but then it is for Talkback, not for voice-overs. Certainly no buzz or noise and absolutely no apparent noise when switched off (so fine for my very quiet voice-over studio). Very, very recommemded!

There was hum on the output when using phantom from the mixer (but maybe that's a mixer issue) but that went away when I used batteries (which go in the base). I would have preferred a non-latching switch. With this latched switch, it's easy (and potentially drastic) to leave talkback open. But there are times when the latched operation is what you want. But overall it's great - sturdy, pro looks and very cheap.
