Sontronics STC-1 Silver

The STC-1 is designed to give outstanding results every time on solo strings, woodwind, brass or percussion instruments as well as guitar and other strummed instruments, and is also perfect for field recording, video and film work, or overhead miking on stage as well as in the studio.

The STC-1 has a fixed cardioid pattern but the capsule head can be removed and replaced with our interchangeable OMNI or HYPER capsules (also available in black or silver) to turn one mic into three! With the OMNI capsule fitted, the STC-1 becomes the perfect overhead or room mic, ideal for recording ensemble, drumkit, piano or group vocals. With the HYPER capsule fitted, STC-1 takes on a much more focused pickup range, which is ideal for hi-hat, acoustic guitar and harmonica.

Magazine Reviews
Music Tech Magazine "If you want to record drum overheads, acoustic guitars and piano and you find the sound of large-capsule condensers too coloured, microphones such as the STC-1 could be the answer." http://www.musictechmag.co.uk/mtm/reviews/stc-1

I can't rate the STC-1 highly enough. My "thing" is acoustic classical recording, often including choir, orchestra, pipe organ, etc. Small diaphragm condensers are the best tool for this job and over the years I've dabbled with various mics used in various ways. I settled on using a spaced pair of omnidirectional mics and I had been using a pair of Behringer B-5. I felt I had outgrown them and looked for the next step up. I read a lot of reviews and eventually chose a pair of STC-1 with omni capsules. The difference was night and day - the performance of these microphones is insane given how affordable they are. The response is so smooth, they cope extremely well with the dynamic range of a choir and the noise characteristics are great. I recommend the STC-1 to anyone, beginner or seasoned pro.

was so impressed after borrowing one of these i had to buy one, sounds great on snare, overheads and acoustic guitar, it's now my 'go to' mic for recording these. adds a touch of warmth without colouring the sound too much. good range of options with lo pass filters/pad switches and very good build quality. records like a mic worth three or four times the price.
