The B-5 is definitely a step up from the C-2. I had assumed that the B-5's cardioid capsule would be the same as the C-2, but it isn't - it's much better. However the real strength of the B-5 kit is the omnidirectional capsule. You won't find a cheaper way to make omni recordings and the B-5 is pretty good at it, too. Moving from the C-2 to the B-5 for classical recordings was an eye-opener. I've now moved on to more expensive microphones but the B-5s are still good and still get occasional outings when I need more microphones.
