BEHRINGER B-2 PRO CONDENSER MIC

The B-2 PRO condenser microphone is an affordable, high-quality way to get what you really hear down on tape (or in bits). Thanks to the pressure gradient transducers and shock-mounted 1.0" gold-sputtered dual-diaphragm capsules, the B-2 PRO mic deliver an open, transparent sound with excellent transient response, with ruler-fl at frequency response from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, and a slight boost in the presence range. The B-2 PRO has three selectable pickup patterns: omni for capturing sound in all directions, cardioid for picking up your source signal while rejecting off -axis sound, and figure eight for picking up only what is directly in front of and behind the microphone’s diaphragm – without any bleed from the sides. Thanks to its exceptional transducers and gold-plated XLR outputs, the B-2 PRO truly delivers on the promise of noise-free transmission, with the utmost transparency. The B-2 PRO also has a switchable -10 dB attenuator to capture high-volume signal sources without distorting, as well as a low-cut filter to tame ultra-low frequencies.

Sound on Sound, April 2004 "The B2 Pro is a good-value entry-level capacitor mic with a choice of three patterns, and it is capable of making high-quality vocal and instrument recordings." https://www.soundonsound.com/sos/apr04/articles/behringerb2.htm

I'm a big fan of the Behringer B-1 and I own several. Now I have need for a microphone with a figure-of-eight pattern so I decided to buy the B-2. It's worth noting that the B-2 is (slightly) inferior to the B-1 in several respects - slightly less flat frequency response, slightly less sensitive, slightly worse signal-to-noise ratio, slightly higher self-noise. These differences are a compromise of the switchable pattern design. You probably wouldn't notice these differences in everyday use and the quality is still great. However if you just want a vocal or instrument microphone with a cardioid pattern, definitely buy the B-1 since it is cheaper and (slightly) better. The one reason to buy the B-2 is for the omnidirectional and figure-of-eight pickup pattern which is essential if you are doing mid-side (M-S) recording. The value is outstanding for a multi-pattern mic and the quality is great so don't hesitate to buy this microphone - it's the best you'll find at the price (and even for a lot more money).

I have had this microphone for ten years now, and would recommend it to anyone. It may not be a high end German Mic, but I don't think a mic costing 16 times more, sounds 16 times better than this. I'm a big fan; It has always done what has been asked of it.

An excellent microphone for the price, and one which seems to get consistently positive reviews which is rare for a Behringer product. It is one of several Behringer products I own all of which I am more than happy with. The B2 has been used for vocals, acoustic guitars and bass, as a mono overhead, and has allowed me my first and very successful attempt at MS Matrix recording. Super value for the money.
