D.A.S. HAILEY ACTIVE MONITORS PAIR DIGITAL AUDIO SYSTEMS HAILEY ACTIVE MONITORS. We have listened carefully to these monitors. When compared by an A-B comparison to any competitive monitor the difference is astonishing. These Digital Audio High Definition Monitors have been designed to reproduce programme material more accurately than most other monitors. More of the detail contained in the signal is reproduced and phase information is preserved, this is evident by the breath, depth and presence of the sound field produced by the speakers. The low frequency reproduction is clearly defined and with very low distortion, there is no boxiness or boomy bass caused by harmonic distortion. This is apparent when the sound of low frequency organ pedal notes, with their the characteristic reverberating sound, is reproduced. To achieve this high standard of reproduction a great deal of care is taken when choosing the best transducers for a particular design. Other than the electronic crossover and a slight bass boost to compensate for the limited space in the enclosure no equalisation is used, the enclosure is a simple bass reflex. The crossover network has been chosen to compliment the transducer, in combination with which a forth order acoustic response is obtained. The crossover frequency is 2.3kHz. Two 70 watts (continuous power) amplifiers drive the transducers, the supply voltage is 50 volts, which provides very high headroom without distortion or transient clipping. The enclosures are constructed from 19mm MDF, with 4mm thick bitumen panels attached to the inside of the enclosure to damp the natural resonance and 40mm thick acoustic foam is used to absorb HF emitted from the rear of the low frequency transducer. The low frequency transducer is an 18cm low distortion long throw unit rated at 80 watts continuous power. The high frequency transducer is a soft dome unit with ferro fluid cooling rated at 100 watts continuous power.. The rear of the dome is vented via an aperture in the pole piece into a rear chamber, the front panel is custom designed and machined from 10mm thick aluminium plate.
