Studiospares M2000 Headphones

The M2000 is our new professional mastering headphone featuring a fully open backed design. This design removes the lack of mid range clarity inherent in closed designs. Performers and mastering engineers generally prefer the open back varieties as the sound is far more accurate and removes the muddled and often “honky” sound. The frequency response is inherently flat and still going strong at frequencies well beyond the audio range.
This model is the culmination of years of development and stands favourable comparison with big brand products costing four times more.

For recording situations where the headphones are being used close to a microphone, why not check out the Studiospares M1000 closed back headphones?

Crystal clear studio sounds. I play virtual piano quite a lot with these on and I forget I have them on. I'm just lost in the moment of piano ambience. Great value as well

It's all about pins and needles with the M2000s: the clarity they offer means you'll always hear a musical pin drop and, at the same time, find the equivalent needle in the haystack of your mix. Buy some - now!

These headphones are really nice to wear not like most pair of headphones. I could wear these all day and they would not hurt my ears. The sound really good quality, I is a must buy

The clarity/fidelity is on par with branded studio phones costing twice NO thrice the price and then some. The only downside if any is that they do unfortunately resemble heavy duty safety ear muffs for roadside work. So if like me you are vain then wear them in the studio only :-)

Had these a couple of years or so now - while they seemed good initially I always had trouble matching the results of mixes done on these phones against the playback on monitors or PA system. Eventually twigged that deep bass end was missing on one side of phones - since I always have bottom end central in mix it didn't sound off set on phones. When I checked one-eared the difference was obvious and traced to the left hand headphone transducer. Disappointing, although I should have checked sooner while under guarantee! I also agree with some others who have found the treble rather lacking in detail and too "polite".

Was really skeptical about how good these are. Easily the best money I've spent on headphones. Very well balanced and clear. I can't fault them for how cheap they are. I wish there were more non-leading brand headphones in the world like these! Beats paying £200-300. Very impressed with the build quality too. And the padded zip case, and the spare headphone pads! And the screw on jack was a nice touch!

Some things I was very pleased with - the build quality is great, the ear cups are nice and big and comfortable and don't press on my ears. The box they come in is lovely :) Isolation isn't excessive (and it's not meant to be), and they do have a smooth, 'airy' sound because of the open backs. The clamping pressure is a bit high, but it's possible to bend them open a bit so they don't press so hard. On the downside, while their sound is very smooth, I found they sound really quite muffled, really lacking in top-end. If I mix on them, then switch to my monitors or Sennheiser HD280Pros, my mixes sound aggressively bright. One giveaway is when I listen to old stuff sourced from vinyl or cassette, there is no background hiss, though it's quite audible on my monitors and Sennheisers. At the bass end it's certainly present and almost breathes like a big speaker, but again, it's almost too smooth, lacking detail. Don't get me wrong - they are still lovely headphones - I was just expecting them to be a bit sharper.

When I first heard the M2000, I was blown away by the excellent value for money and sound. They are a beautifully balanced sounding headphone and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to audio people and pros alike. The cups are pushed tight into your head, but your ears are kept away from touching anything so they are very comfortable. They remind me of the Fischer Audio headphones in both looks and specs. (Also very good) They 'focus' quite well at low volume too, so you don't have to blast sound into your ears to get 'presence'. A really good buy.

Bought these as a set of reference headphones, hopefully to be less coloured than my current 'DJ' headphones. For the price, there is nothing to complain about. They are comfortable, sound good, and feel good quality. They are plastic, so I wouldn't expect them to stand up to a beating, but everything can be replaced so its not a worry.

Using these as a supplementary mixing tool, they're already proving a worthwhile addition to the different ways I can test a mix. Over and above the good sound quality, they seem solid, I'm finding them comfortable ... and they're relatively inexpensive. What more can you ask for ...

I bought these after a lot of research and even after all the great reviews, i was still pleasantly surprised by the quality

I am using these in my studio as an alternate reference when mixing. I am very impressed with the detail, the very stable stereo image and natural tonal balance, but most amazing of all is to get those attributes at this astonishingly good price-point!

These headphones are fantastic. I normally use beyerdynamic DT311 , but these M2000 are excellent for the money. The bass is very controlled and the higher frequency sounds sore into your drums. The mid is not as balanced as my 311 but the stereo imagery is still very crisp, but then. My 311 were over twice the price of the M2000. Over all the M2000 are fantastic value and I would not hesitate to buy another pair. You won't be disappointed with the build quality or sound, These were recommend to me by a sound engineer/musician...just buy them..

Great pair of headphones for the price - comfy and great sound. One drawback is the plastic frame, while light, is susceptible to making a clicking noise when you move your jaw, so you have to be fairly still - chewing gum is a no-no! Other than that, great headphones.

I needed to replace some rather ancient but well loved AKG headphones. These gave me what I was looking for at a reasonable price. A lot of my work is voice/acoustic instruments. These are a good choice - I tend to use them to PFL in the control room where I want to ensure what's coming from the mic or to A-B test with other monitors.

Best Mastering cans I've ever owned!

Bought these as was finding mixing using my Behringer Truth Actives and cheap Sennheiser phones was producing bass-light, mid-heavy songs. For the price, immediate thought was lightweight and well-made, comfortable to use for long periods. Very true sound, the drivers give you good clarity in your mixes, and having just finished a song I and others have noted the final version does feature an improved sound; both drums and bass are much better placed in the mix. So I am very happy with these, and for anyone needing open-backed phones who can't afford the top-end Sony/Sennheiser etc, these are as good as anything out there!

I wanted a good pair of headphones to replace a Sony pair I have been using for years. The main use will be for assessing and mixing the music I produce on my computer recording system. I am very pleased with these phones, as the audio quality is very natural and they are comfortable to wear for long periods. I was unsure about whether to go for these or the M1000, as the difference between open and closed back can affect the accuracy over the frequency band. In the end I went for these, and I am not disappointed that I did. There were no instructions in the pack, and I think that would have been useful to have. The only thing I would warn buyers about - not a fault - is that you need to push the plugs hard to make them snap into the sockets.

I've been putting these cans through their paces for a couple of weeks now, mixing everything from Metal bands to solo acoustic acts, and they deliver! None of the usual "hot ear syndrome" you expect from wearing headphones for hours at a stretch; these are cool, comfortable and quite possibly the most natural-sounding I have ever had the pleasure of using
