This is lighter and smaller than the conventional boom stand i have been using for some years now. I have mounted it straight to my dj console with the optional base mount. It also appears to be well designed and built.

This is one of the few adjustable mic arms that will support heavier mics such as the Rode NT2A with ease. It is solid and quiet - can even swing it around whilst recording. Tension adjusts easily with knobs. Also looks great and does not transmit noise like some angle arms with struts. Worth paying that bit extra for this one.

The great thing about this arm is that it will support heavier studio mics such as the Rode NT2A which is too heavy for most arms. The arm's mounting pin just slips into the desk clamp - it can be left free to swivel quietly between presenters or held firmly by just tightening the side knob on the clamp. There are three tension knobs to adjust the tension at each joint to achieve perfect support for the weight of mic - so you can still move the arms to different angles without slackening the knobs. The tension springs are inside the oval arms - with steel straps going over the joints - so ther is no noise. You can just lift it out of the desk clamp if you wish to remove it quickly. It cost me a little more but the extra cost is far outweighed by the quality and usability. I have been using this arm now for over a year and it has been excellent. A good quality flexible mic cable is threaded through the arm - you would have to take the arm apart if it ever needs replacing.
