SOUND SYNTHESIS WITH VST INSTRUMENTS ADVANCE PREVIEW - NOT DUE OUT UNTIL AUGUST 2002 By Simon Millward. The first part of this book provides an introduction to the theoretical aspects of sound and the main sound synthesis techniques: additive, analogue, FM, wavetable, physical modelling and granular synthesis. The second part of this book goes on to link the theoretical aspects of sound synthesis to the practical by describing a collection of VST Instruments and by providing a tutorial on synthesising specific sounds. VST Instruments are virtual models of real-world or imaginary synthesisers, samplers and drum machines. This concept was developed by Steinberg for use in their Cubase VST audio-MIDI sequencer, but VST Instruments may also be used with Steinberg`s Nuendo and Emagic`s Logic Audio. Although the instruments described exist in the virtual world inside your computer the concepts explored can equally be applied to equivalent real-world instruments. The use of VST Instruments in this context makes a practical and convenient solution for the study and exploration of sound synthesis. 250 pages.
