Day 3 - Wireless Mic Systems

What is a Wireless Mic system? Well quite simply, it’s a system that allows you to use a handheld (or headset/ lavalier) mic , but without any cables. This is very helpful if you are using a lavalier (tie clip) or Headset mic, as you don’t want a cable tying you down! From stadium filling acts to the karaoke night down the local, wireless systems allow ease of use, control and easy stage management of mic, instruments and in ear systems.

Shopping Tips:

  • There are wireless systems for many applications, check which one you need, in ear, wireless handheld, lavalier etc etc.
  • There are 2 types of wireless system – 2.4GHz and UHF – UHF operates in the radio wave spectrum, 2.4GHz works on same frequency band as your WIFI router.
  • UHF systems need a licence to use – Channel 38 and Channel 70 are free – look for these units if you don’t have a licence.
  • There are dual systems that allow you to use a headset and handheld, if you need flexibility look for these!
  • As cost increases, so does quality of the microphone, sound capture and useable distance.
  • If you are stuck, please just ask, we’re more than happy to recommend something for you!
