sE Electronics Rupert Neve RNR1 Active Ribbon

RNR1The Rupert Neve RNR1 ribbon microphone manages to achieve what no condenser can, a smooth and natural sound without any added brightness. While others find themselves battling fatigue from listening back on their recordings, the RNR1 helps you dive down into the mix and focus on the emotion of the music. Highly regarded as one of the industry's finest microphones, and a definite contender for the best ribbon microphone of all time, the RNR1 is a no brainer.

Ribbon microphones have always excelled at providing smooth and intimate mid-range but are often considered delicate and dull. Many companies have researched ribbon technology and delicacy is no longer a problem for high-end ribbon microphones, but the inherent roll-off in high frequencies has only recently been solved.

With the RNR1, two custom Rupert Neve-designed transformers form the buffer between the ribbon and the outside world. The circuitry between those transformers helps maintain the ultra-wide frequency response, compensating for the ribbon's natural predisposition to roll it off, and thus high-frequency content is preserved.

Such compromises have meant that ribbons have never been very widely accepted or used as the first choice for recording.

Key Features:

  • Extended Frequency Response, ranging from as low as 20Hz and up to 25kHz while maintaining a flat and natural responsiveness for detailed recordings.
  • Figure-8 Polar Pattern, capturing from both the front and the rear of the capsule the RNR1 records an open sound.
