Neumann M 147 Tube Microphone Cardioid

The long-awaited M147 has arrived. The large dual-diaphragm capsule is inherited from the model's now legendary predecessors, the U47 and M49. The polar pattern leans towards a super-cardioid due to its distinctive transducer design. Following the capsule is a valve that acts as an impedance converter designed so as not to load the very high output impedance of the condenser capsule.

Next is a transformerless output stage that guarantees a very low noise platform. The microphone's self-noise level is only 12 dBA/24dB CCIR weighted. The transfer characteristics of the valve allow for huge voltage swings, ideal for the recording of very high SPLs. The M147 can drive cables up to 300 metres long without degradation.
