ACOUSTIC CONTROL BIG BASS TRAP- BASS ABSORBER Ever noticed the inherent boom in so many rooms immediately anyone plays anything below 200Hz? Low frequencies are everywhere. Tuned bass traps were once in fashion. The fact that they are very efficient at the tuned centre frequency and multiples of that frequency is great, providing nothing in that room changes. If it does, the resonant frequency changes and tuned bass traps are best used for garbage collection. Passive traps, ie foam, cover all frequencies in a more or less linear manner and cost a fraction of active traps. These Big Bass Traps weigh 3.3kg each and benefit from the very high density of the foam. The maximum height of the pyramids are 300mm. (The base thickness is 75mm and the pyramids are 225mm high). The length is 1000mm x 500mm wide. Density 36kg/cu metre. STUDIOSPARES ACOUSTIC CONTROL SERIES A family of inter-related products designed to aid the acoustic control of sound waves. Acoustic performance is dependant on four factors, the profile of the tile, the surface structure of the broken air bubbles, the thickness and the density of the foam. All of the Acoustic Control series (xcept Vocal Booth Tiles) are based on a heavyweight foam designed specifically for acoustics, (not packaging). The laws of physics dictate that absorption is directly proportional to mass. The majority of other manufacturers tiles have a density of 24kg/cu metre but don't like to talk about it. Ours has a density of 36kg/cu metre which in foam terms is a heavyweight. That's why they outperform competitive products. The profile is not just designed to look aesthetically pleasing: the greater the surface area, the more tile there is to meet the soundwave. In consequence, deeper tiles have better absorption coefficients. The tile's surface when viewed through a glass reveals a series of ruptured air bubbles which in effect increases the surface area. Wall tiles come in various thickness. The thicker the material the better the low frequency absorption. That is why our Bass Traps have an effective thickness of 300mm. Even our thicker wall tiles have a maximum thickness of 100mm. Few people are going to hold lighted cigarettes against the foam but it is reassuring that they contain tiny particles of graphite and melamine which provide excellent resistance to fire. This foam is so advanced that a blow torch directed at the foam will cause it to char. That char will fall away as dust when agitated. It will not form burning droplets whilst toxic gases are practically zero.
