Enormous amounts of energy are dissipated. That energy is partially dissipated into the cabinet structure which in turn vibrates the supporting structure, ie floorboards and joists. Witness the bass thump from sounds from other rooms. A foam mat will absorb most of this low frequency energy. Studiospares evaluated various formulations of foam rubber and found this to provide the greatest attenuation. Also provides a greater definition to the sound within the studio.
