The years have only increased its popularity as it has become even more refined being considered the finest compressor/limiter available. It features the original OvereasyTM compression which is accepted as being the most musical and transparent of all systems since it slowly comes into operation. It also includes Hard Knee Compression where compression operates by a pre determined amount immediately above the threshold. Technically this is more predictable and is favoured by some engineers. Above these levels comes limiting with two topologies including a PeakStopPlusTM limiter. The 160SL also includes a unique AutovelocityTM system which employs a combination of manual attack and release settings. There are a total of three attack and release modes to choose from, Manual, Full Auto and Auto VelocityTM. Three way VU metering allows accurate and intuitive monitoring of Input, Output or Gain Reduction. Side chains can be linked with a front panel switch for accurate stereo tracking and true RMS Power Summing. The unit includes Jensen output transformers making it capable of driving other equipment over 300 metres away. The 160SL and its predecessors are probably found in more top studios than any other compressor/limiter. Colour blue.
