    AKG D5 vs. Shure SM58

Im looking to buy some new vocal mics for my school.
And was wondering is the AKG D5 is upto the standards of the SM58.
    Thanks

    Hey
You should look into the Sennheiser E835.  It sounds much better than the SM58 in monitors and mains and it even stands up well against the B58.  It and its more expensive brothers (E845, E865 etc) are all built like tanks and sound good.   Its around the same price as the 58 and outperforms it by a mile.

    Hope This Helps

    Hi,

Never heard a Sennheiser sound as good as a shure, and don't see them on many tech riders.

    Hi
I am not alone in thinking that the Sennheiser's have a much nicer sound.  They have a smoother top and a little fuller low-mid. I agree that often artists will sway towards the SM58 because it has a proven track record and is definitely number 1 choice for Metal and Punk acts however i find that the E835 (and its more expensive brothers) have a better sound for more professional artists. Again, 58s often appear on riders due to their track record and proven reliability however when you have a good rig and are looking for that 'sweet' vocal sound the Sennheisers are the way to go.
    Just my personal opinion.

it all depends on what you are after really, personally i can't tell the difference between them live as most vocalists have such bad technique.most places i go to use the 58's.although some folk like flood use the 58 in the studio for certain singers eg bono'polis' ehehe

Yeah, i know what you mean about mic technique.  Corporate functions are the worst.  Its like some of the people who give talks at these meetings are allergic to mics.  They refuse to wear lapel mics and then when i give them a hand held they hold it at waist line!
Anyway, choose which ever mic does the job for you (same goes for any bit of gear).  I just prefer the e835Cool [H]
