HHB CDR882 Dual drive CD recorder. The HHB CDR882 is a dual drive CD recorder designed from the ground up for uncompromised professional performance. A genuine REC-REC drive configuration supports seamless extended recording time across two or more discs, simultaneous recording of two discs, and high speed duplication, equipping the CDR882 for a wide range of professional applications including broadcast, music production, live sound recording, houses of worship and duplication. The CDR882 features full 24-bit A/D and D/A converters and a high quality quartz crystal-derived internal clock. Unlike inferior CD recorders, the CDR882 uses noise-shaped dither onto CD (rather than simply truncating) to minimise quantisation error noise, while audiophile-grade analogue circuitry also plays a key role in ensuring superior sonic performance. The pursuit of excellence continues in the area of build quality, with the CDR882 weighing in at 6.7kg / 14.7lbs. High quality IDE CD-R drives are mounted in a massive steel chassis to ensure reliable, glitch-free recording, even in unfavourable environments including live concerts where ambient noise levels can be particularly high. The CDR882 is compatible with a huge range of CD-R media (including data discs), both low and high speed up to 52X, enabling high-speed duplication from one drive to the other at speeds limited only by the media being used. A full complement of professional features equips the CDR882 for a wide variety of pro CD recording and replay applications. Track IDs may be manually created, or auto-generated from the digital input, audio level threshold or time period, both user definable. When recording seamlessly across two or more discs, track IDs are inserted when the next disc starts, and where the user-definable fade out and fade in start and finish. With an overlap between the two discs, the whole program can either be played back uninterrupted in the CDR882, or easily reconstructed in a DAW using the track IDs to precisely align the audio from the two or more discs. The CDR882 supports CD Text, and makes its own use of it to identify multi-disc recordings and the correct order. The versatility of the CDR882 is enhanced further by the inclusion of Sync Record and Disc Copy modes, a Program mode to enable selective track record/replay, and Single/Clone modes to select recording to one or both drives. • RED100 Vs sE Reflexion an Independent Comparison

We have been asked many times by customers how the RED100 compares to the sE Reflexion filter, we gave one of each to Mark Davies, an independent Producer / Engineer to test and send us back the results, below is his response.

SE Electronics Reflexion Filter vs Studiospares RED 100

So how does the RED 100 compare to the SE Reflexion Filter despite it being less than half the price?

I recently did some tests in my notoriously difficult studio. The same singer, mic, pre-amp and convertors were used to keep everything on a level playing field. After the recording lots of compression was applied, the same amount on all of the files so that the differences is a bit more noticeable.

Setting up: The SE filter features a complex mechanism to attach the filter to the mic stand which took a good 20 minutes to figure out and put in place, having no instructions to hand!. However, the RED100 was on and secure in minutes. Also, whilst the Reflextion filter is a fixed shape, the RED100 is hinged at the middle allowing you to vary the 'size' of the space. This could also prove useful for instrument recording.

The results: There are three audio files (below) which are recordings with no filter, Reflextion Filter and the RED100. The recording with no filter shows up the thin, 'glassy' sound of the room. Interestingly however, both the Reflextion Filter and RED100 sound almost identical.

Conclusion: It is hard to justify spending over twice the money on the Reflexion Filter, even though it is a slightly sturdier construction. The setup time, adjustability and ease of portability of the RED100 make this an easy decision.
